About Us

How we got our start

The bakery got its name from the gravel back roads found throughout rural Kentucky. It is this country and homey feel that you find along these roads that we want to bring into the bakery.

At home, when you go into a restaurant, people know you by name and ask about your mammaw. We want Backroads Bakery to have that same atmosphere.

Backroads Bakery will Serve, Sustain, and Contribute. We will work hard to provide an inviting environment for our customers and serve them efficiently. When at all possible, we will use locally grown or produced products. Any unsold food will be donated to local non-profits focusing on ending hunger in our community. Food scraps such as strawberry tops and egg shells will be composted; cardboard and plastic will be recycled (as locally accepted).  We will maximize our use of technology to connect with the community, while at the same time reducing our carbon footprint with excessive paper goods. We are committed to contributing to organizations in Lexington through our products, funding, and increasing our involvement in other community opportunities.

Above all, Lexington is our home and we will be good stewards of it's resources.  Special thanks to the Lexington Incubator Kitchen for helping us get our start.
